ya know, everybody tells their kids not to talk to strangers and then they go and plunk the kids on the lap of this big, loud, bearded guy (many of the kids probably don’t even know anyone with a beard) who they have never met before…

Yep, that was ME as a child. Mom says I was terrified of Santa. It is absolutely insane that parents sit kids in the lap of a strange-looking stranger and expect them to enjoy it — not to mention the fact that he’s not real!
